The studies that exist show a ‘benefit’ regarding cholesterol levels.

There are no studies that demonstrate ezetimibe or ezetimibe/simvastatin benefit health.

Is that regarding primary prevention or secondary prevention?

Also, what about familial hypercholesterolaemia?

i.e. have they not been shown to have any benefit in any of the scenarios where they’d be prescribed?

I sat in a public meeting this week, which was showing the film ‘Statin Nation’, and heard 2 accounts from members of the audience who were taking statins that supports all of the above and more. Fundamentally, one person had given up on statins due to side-effects, the other you-yo’ed back and forwards on and then off statins. He came off because of muscle pain and went back on due to fear of high cholesterol causing premature death. Both were amazed to hear that the cholesterol debate is far more complex and asked many questions resulting in one saying he would be re-thinking the issue including investigating low-carb diet.
It continues to amaze me that these drugs seem to be gaining ground against all the personal testimony (never mind absence of scientific proof)!

And why does no one discuss the pretty much guaranteed liver damage and dementia incited by these hideous statin and zetia type drugs????? I see people every day at work who have lost either their liver or kidneys or BOTH to these poisonous substances and yet the FDA does nothing and MD’s across the country continue to obsess about cholesterol levels and prescribing these toxic substances that state in their OWN package inserts that they do NOT lower the risk of heart disease. It is soooo counterproductive and is beginning to really put a dent in my 35 year nursing career.
