When I started coumadin (AF), my doctor stopped my vitamin E & C. I hate Coumadin (since 2004), as it has aged me thinning my hair, skin discolorations, mainly in the ankle/foot, spider veins, coldness, and depressing. Sometimes I felt if this is the way I'm going to live, I don't want to. I went through 3 years of misery with other experimental drugs that affected me terribly. Aches & pains, diarrhea, weakness, and you name it. I began doing research, as my doctor was never interested in reported side effects--"beats a stroke." The Ecotrin I was takeing was super, and I bled more profusely and took longer to clot. After changes and refusals of further trial meds, I began feeling better in August of last year. However, I began having severe nocturnal leg cramps and told my doctor. I had taken quinine, but temporarily loss of hearing occurred in my right ear. After checking in Dr. Rosenfeld's "Symptoms" book, he said quinine can cause temporary loss of hearing and I stopped the quinine. I checked this further on the Internet. Yet, when I told my doctor, he did not know about the quinine side effect and was going to prescribe more. I check the Internet again for leg cramp relief. One doctor recommended a daily capsule of E&C (400 E and 500 C). It has been the answer, and I no longer have the cramps. A bonus to this was the return of soft skin, where I had dealt with alligator skin for so long, as well as sores that would accompany. I would love nothing more than to return to Ecotrin for my blood thinning, but I fear my doctor's response, as he has gritted his teeth at me when I've questioned him.
